About Sovere

Sovereign by design.

We built Sovere because we couldn't find an LMS that respected the family's right to teach without being watched.

Our Mission

Education without surveillance.

Every popular homeschool platform runs in the cloud. That means someone else holds your children's learning history, attendance records, assessment data, and behavioral patterns. Someone is always looking.

SoVere is built on a different premise: your data belongs to your family. It lives on your machine, encrypted, and never phones home. There is no account we can access, no server we could be compelled to hand over, no analytics pipeline harvesting your children's intellectual fingerprint.

SoVere is a product of Unplugged Technologies, LLC — an independent technology company founded by homeschool parents and privacy-minded developers. We built the tool we wanted to use. We suspect you do too.

The Name

SoVere  =  True Sovereignty

SoV
from Sovereign
self-rule · independence
+
ere
from Vera (Latin: “truth”)
truth · authenticity
=
True Sovereignty
real independence · verified truth

The name is the product. Not sovereignty in name only — sovereignty that is structurally true, because there is no architecture that could take it from you.

Under the Hood

The technical commitments we make.

🦀

Built with Tauri + Rust

Not Electron. Tauri apps are a fraction of the size and use a fraction of the RAM. Rust in the backend means memory safety by default.

🤖

Mistral 7B for AI

When AI features are used, they run via Mistral 7B Instruct — a model chosen specifically to avoid big-tech AI platforms. No OpenAI, no Google, no Microsoft backend.

🔑

Signed & Verified

Every release is cryptographically signed. Update checks are user-triggered only — Sovere never phones home to check for updates automatically.

💾

SQLite on-device

Your curriculum, grades, and student data live in a local SQLite database — a single file you can back up, move, and own completely.

🚫

Zero Telemetry

No analytics. No crash reporters. No usage data. Nothing leaves your machine automatically — ever. There is no pipeline to compromise.

📦

Portable by Design

Your data, license, and settings live in a folder you control. Backup, move, or clone your entire setup with standard file operations — no migration tools needed.

FAQ

Common questions.

Will SoVere's transcripts be accepted in all 50 states?

SoVere's PDF transcript exports include every field recognized by college admissions offices, military recruitment branches, and homeschool oversight bodies across all 50 states: student name and date of birth, school name, academic year, course names and descriptions, credit hours, letter grades, GPA, and graduation date. You issue the diploma and transcript as the administering school — SoVere ensures the documentation looks professional and complete. Specific subjects required and any annual evaluation requirements vary by state, so review your state's homeschool law to confirm your course of study meets local standards before filing your transcript.

Does Sovere require an internet connection?

No. The entire app runs offline. Internet is only required if you choose to browse the optional curriculum marketplace. Every other feature — grading, tracking, transcripts, student login, thin-client sharing — works with no connection.

Where is my data stored?

On your machine, in a local encrypted SQLite database. Sovere has no servers that hold your data. There is no cloud backup, which means you are responsible for backing up your own files — just like any other local software.

What's the difference between the Admin and Student modes?

Admin mode is for parents/educators. It requires a secure passphrase and gives full access to curriculum management, grading, exports, and settings. Student mode uses a shorter access code and restricts what a student can see and do.

What is the "thin client" feature?

On Liberated and Sovereign plans, Sovere can run a local web server on your machine. Students on other devices (tablets, Chromebooks, older laptops) on the same home network open a browser and connect — no app install needed on their device.

What does "Demo Mode" mean?

Demo Mode lets you run Sovere with one student before you purchase a license. All features are available except PDF exports, which require an active license. It's not time-limited — you can evaluate Sovere as long as you like.

Can I transfer my license to a new computer?

Yes. Licenses are tied to a key file you control, not to cloud hardware fingerprinting. Moving to a new machine means copying your data and your key — standard file operations.

What curriculum formats does Sovere support?

Sovere supports PDF lesson content, video links, and structured lesson plans through the marketplace format. The marketplace is an open standard — third-party publishers can package and sell their curriculum through it.

Is Sovere available for Mac and Windows?

Linux is shipping first. Mac and Windows builds are in progress. Join the waitlist to be notified when your platform is available.

Do you have a refund policy?

We offer a 30-day refund on annual licenses, no questions asked. Email us and we'll sort it out quickly.

Who is behind Sovere?

SoVere is a product of Unplugged Technologies, LLC — an independent company built by homeschool parents and privacy-minded developers. We're not VC-backed and don't intend to be. The business model is a simple annual license, not harvesting your data to sell to someone else.
